This buckle was etched with care, forged in memory and is worn with love. This piece tells a story that bridges friendship and family across time. This was my final project for a "Fabric" theme semester in my jewelry class at The Glassell School of Art here in Houston. This came about because of flowers that are on my maternal grandparents and great grandparents headstones and also on a baby romper of mine that was my mom's favorite outfits when I was an infant. The flowers and leaves are created from brass sheet and hand formed with hammer and dapping tools. The stones are different colored tourmaline cabochons. The "painters tape" blue (my mother's favorite color) suede belt is sewn from a small hide and the color also has personal meaning to me. This buckle can be removed and worn with another belt I designed in cornflower blue and also what I refer to as my every day utility belt strap, just a simple belt strap. This piece is part of my personal collection.
