3/4" walnut wood is inlayed with sterling silver wire. The black texture is from burning the wood. I carve channels in each column to inlay sterling wire. Some columns have dot inlays in addition to the line inlay. After the hand sanding. burning, drilling, staining and inlay, the wood is treated with walnut oil. This preserves the natural look and feel of the wood. Sterling silver liquid beads are used to thread the wood columns together it complementing and enhancing the line of inlay. Wood is a new medium that I've been exploring. This is the first necklace I have created from wood with inlay.
